The Origin
Mario J. Novoa's journey into filmmaking began long before The Los Angeles Film School — it started on a high school theater stage. The early exposure to storytelling through performance planted the seeds of a creative career that would grow through education and mentorship.
Before coming to LAFS, Mario received mentorship through Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that supports independent filmmakers. That mentorship gave him industry context and creative connections that complemented his formal education.
At The Los Angeles Film School, Mario developed the technical and creative skills to turn his passion for storytelling into a professional career. The hands-on curriculum gave him the practical filmmaking foundation to work across multiple disciplines.
Today, Mario's career in the film industry reflects the multi-disciplinary path that many LAFS graduates follow — moving between writing, directing, producing, and creative collaboration.
"Every path to filmmaking is different. Mine started on a high school stage and grew through mentorship and education."
